A few years ago Aeroplan put an expiry date on everyone’s points. They gave your points a 7 year shelf life. This started on the 01 January 2007. Any points that were in your account at time had 7 years to be redeemed. On the 01 January 2014 the first bunch of 7 year old points will expire.
So why do should I care about this now?
In the lead up to the 01 January 2014 there will be an increase in demand for Aeroplan seats as people realize their points will expire. Seats for travel in 2013 and 2014 will be harder to book than they are now. (…and it’s hard enough now!)
Get ahead of the curve and spend your points before the Aeroplan induced points panic starts for real.
This will be case of use them or lose them.
